Student Investment Research Projects
We collaborate with economics and finance students from Canadian universities on real market analysis. These aren't classroom exercises—students work alongside our team to examine actual investment opportunities and economic trends.
Real Analysis
Students examine live market data and company financials. They learn to spot patterns we use in actual client research, not hypothetical scenarios pulled from outdated textbooks.
Practical Learning
Academic theory meets the messy reality of markets. Students see how inflation data impacts portfolio decisions, or why a company's earnings call changed our sector outlook.
Mentorship Focus
Our analysts share the thought process behind investment decisions. Students ask questions about methodology, challenge assumptions, and develop critical thinking that goes beyond formulas.
How the Program Works
We accept applications twice yearly for semester-long projects starting September 2025 and January 2026. Students commit 12-15 hours weekly working remotely with our Edmonton team.
Application Phase
Students submit a brief research sample—maybe a company analysis they did for class, or their take on a recent economic report. We're looking for curiosity and clear thinking, not perfection.
Interviews happen over video calls. We ask about their interests in finance and what they hope to learn. Some applicants want to explore equity research, others are curious about macroeconomic analysis.
Next application window opens July 2025 for fall semester projects.
Project Assignment
Each student gets matched with an analyst based on their interests and our current research needs. Projects vary—one might examine Canadian energy sector trends while another analyzes fintech disruption in payments.
We provide access to the same research tools we use: financial databases, screening software, and our internal documentation on methodology. Students attend weekly team meetings where we discuss ongoing market developments.
Research Development
Students draft analysis and get feedback throughout the semester. Their work goes through multiple revisions—just like our client deliverables. We push them to defend their conclusions and consider alternative interpretations.
The best part? Watching students connect classroom concepts to real situations. One recent participant realized how differently markets react to expected versus unexpected economic data—something textbooks explain but markets demonstrate vividly.
Top projects may contribute to our published research with proper attribution.

What Students Gain
This isn't about adding a line to a resume. Students develop practical skills by working on research that actually matters to our clients and our investment decisions.
They learn to write clearly about complex financial topics. Academic papers have one style—client memos need another. We help students translate technical analysis into actionable insights.
